Class of 2023
Major: Nursing
Minor: International Affairs and Spanish

During my time at Northeastern, I was able to utilize my Spanish through volunteering as well as through my co-op experiences and a Dialogue of Civilization experience. I volunteered for four years as a Jumpstart Team Leader and Volunteer Coordinator at local preschools throughout Boston. At these preschools, many of the children only spoke Spanish and I was able to communicate with them while helping children learn how to read, write, and prepare for kindergarten. I also used my Spanish during my two co-ops on both a neurology floor at Brigham and Womens Hospital, as well as at a pediatric burn hospital known as Shriners Children’s Boston. After graduation, I was able to use my Spanish to serve as a Program Assistant for a DOC to Argentina, helping students learn more about the language and culture of Argentina in the cities of Buenos Aires and Calafate. Currently, I work as a nurse at Shriners and I use my Spanish daily to communicate with my patients. Knowing Spanish has enabled me to communicate and connect with my patients and give them a sense of comfort during their stay at the hospital. The ability to communicate with my patients has served me tremendously and has helped me elevate my relationship with patients, as well as my nursing skills since it helps me provide the best care possible to those who speak Spanish.
