How do I get started with Spanish at Northeastern? What level is right for me?
All students with previous experience studying Spanish are required to take the placement test. The link to the placement test can be found in the student hub.
After taking the placement test, please reach out to the appropriate Spanish advisor to determine which course is the right one for you. See the Contact page for more information and links to schedule an advising appointment.
Can I study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country?
Most students can study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country and count some courses towards one of the majors or minor. Please note that all study abroad courses should be approved by Spanish Program Coordinator prior to the semester abroad. Please contact Professor Agostinelli at c.agostinelli-fucile@northeastern.edu.
Currently, there are no DOC programs that include a Spanish for Healthcare course, but students can participate in traditional study abroad to fulfill Spanish for Healthcare program requirements (both the majors and the minor).
How can I get involved in the Spanish speaking/learning community at Northeastern?
We have a very active Spanish speaking/learning community at Northeastern! Please see our event page to learn more about upcoming events.
We also have a very active chapter of the National Collegiate Hispanic Honors Society. Students in our chapter, Alpha Beta Gamma host many events throughout the academic year that open to all students in our programs.
Students in our programs who are interested in becoming members of Sigma Delta Pi will receive an email in the late summer, and again in late fall when the applications for our induction ceremonies open up. This is a great way to meet more students in our program and to keep practicing your Spanish, even when you are not currently registered in a Spanish course. See Sigma Delta Pi for more information.
